Gaudy Orange

Orange is one of my least favorite colors. I know that’s a random fact nobody really cares about, but it’s the first thing I thought when reading the color orange was the Review Crews topic for this week’s writing challenge.

Following my initial thought of distaste for the showy hue, I quoted aloud one of my favorite movie lines, “But I will not wear that gaudy orange, I will not. It is not my color wheel and I’m not gonna wear it.” If you’ve not seen The Blind Side, I highly recommend it.

This morning as I went outside, I felt only a hint of chill. Fall weather has been much warmer than usual for our area. Leaves on our trees are barely beginning to change. That’s when it hit me. I really do like orange, but only when it’s on the correct canvas.

I was recently cleaning out some computer files and recall seeing pictures Jacob had taken during last year’s photography class. The lesson was on lighting so the pictures were taken at different times of the day. They have not been edited or cropped as they are homework shots. They are from last fall, and they are filled with beauty. Even some orange.

As we progress further into the fall season, I look forward to leaves changing and the landscape bursting with color. The local forecast suggests cooler fall temperatures later this week.

As autumn colors change the landscape, I anticipate Jacob will be taking new pictures filled with hints of orange. I’m sure they will be beautiful. That said, if I’m out shopping for a new fall sweater, I will pass by any that are orange. I will not wear that gaudy orange, I will not.

What are your thoughts on the color orange?

Do you prefer them reflected on an autumn canvas, or are they part of your color wheel?  If you have a favorite orange sweater, I really want to see a picture! Leave a comment, or join the Linky below.

  1. I’m with you—I won’t wear orange. But it looks good on my son!! You are right it has to be on the right canvas, I love the orange leaves on the backdrop of a bright blue sky.

    1. I agree. Fall trees with a blue background is the best. I’m not partial to cooler weather, but I love the colors!

  2. I loved your post, and I agree.. orange just needs the right canvas. Well done.

  3. I don’t wear much orange either, unless I’m cheering for my college football team. Very nice photography! I like the bird bath.

    1. I bet I can guess what team you cheer on. 😉 Honestly, I had little knowledge of football until I met my husband. I became a fan by association. I still maintain little knowledge, but on a Saturday here in the northwest I sometimes wear chrimson and gray.
The bird bath is one of my favorites. I’m very proud of his efforts.
