School is back in session!! With all the busyness that comes with moving, I feel like I’ve had very little time to prepare. God has been gracious and it all seems to be coming together.
Little Bear is always excited for school. She begins 1st grade with:
I’ll be adding activities from the newest preschool/kindergarten workbooks from Rod & Staff. There’s a lot of cutting, coloring and pasting. She enjoys the work, and it helps keep her busy.
Magoo begins 4th grade with:
Cantering the Country
Math U See
Apologia Science Astronomy
Mom’s reading list
Handwriting Without Tears Cursive
All About Spelling
Magoo has unsuccessfully been through a number of spelling curriculum’s. Last winter we changed to All About Spelling, and for the first time he was excited and got it! I’ll share more later as we see how this year progresses.
Columbo begins 6th grade with:
Columbo is starting math this year with Times Tales. We’re hoping to establish a stronger foundation in multiplication facts before progressing in math. I’ve heard great things about Times Tales, so will share more later on how it goes.
Last year we read through American history, and this year we will be mapping and learning about each individual state with Cantering the Country. Each of the kids will create a notebook with a section on each state. I intend to add extra assignments to keep Magoo and Columbo challenged, starting with building a timeline as we draw from last years history lessons. The littles are especially excited we will be sampling cuisine from each state with Eat Your Way Through the USA.
Moving to a new and smaller community has resulted in some activity challenges. Although I’m searching for new and interesting community activities, at home I’ll be surprising the littles every now and then with Game Day Friday. It’s always fun to put the books aside for a day to play games and build puzzles. I’ll be sure to share our favorites!
It’s looking to be a fun homeschooling year!!
