We have just survived several days of an absent dad. It’s always hard on the littles when dad needs to be away. Knowing how much we would all miss him, I was determined to fill our days with some fun.
Magoo’s very first entry in his question book was “How is ice cream made?” Although I had priced ice cream makers, I never found one within my desired budget so the question kept being pushed aside. I was recently surprised on my birthday with a new ice cream maker. (Dad found the most affordable one at Costco. Go dad!)
New machine ready, it was the perfect time to address Magoo’s question. We started with a video of how ice cream is made. The video is very basic and starts with where milk and cream comes from. Columbo and Magoo had a recent opportunity to milk a cow during a Contender of the Faith outing so enjoyed “educating” me and Little Bear. Following the movie we made both vanilla and mint chocolate chip ice cream from recipes that came with the machine. Turned out delicious!!
In all of our adventures and outings, the highlight of our time without dad was a sleep out in our basement castle. The littles looked forward to it all week. We spent our evening munching on popcorn and watching Wreck It Ralph….twice, before slumbering and giggling and slumbering.
We are now thrilled to have dad home again. We utilized what we learned and made him a special treat of ice cream sandwiches. We made graham crackers from a recipe at In the Kitchen with Dinah and added our own homemade ice cream. So yummy!!!!
Although I had planned to post soon my progress with exercise and weight loss goals, I think I may need to wait a bit longer…..can’t seem to find that measuring tape…yeah, that’s it, measuring tape missing…..
